I have a friend with a decent set of SLQ that he may sell soon. I helped him when we had several coin shops to search for coins in the 70`s. There are several before 1925 and most all dates after 1925-1930. I helped his wife buy a choice 23 or 24s at xf or better. retail now over $500. No 1916s, but I cant remember all dates, no junk ones My ? is, Whats the market on SLQ`s and how much under Red Book should I offer him. All pre 1925 have full dates and nice ones over 1925. I will go get pics because I would sell some if the markets good. Any help appreciated. Gary

Quote: I will go get pics Yes, please do. Awfully hard to put an exact price on a coin just by a description.

I wouldn't use Red Book prices as the basis for an offer. NumisMedia and/or ebay sold prices are a better starting point.

If your going to use the Red Book for prices I suggest you use a 2010 edition. The Red Books prices are so inflated that is the system I use to evaluate my coins. A 2010 edition. Another method would be to simply use ebay for approximate values. Although those are rather on the popular type of coin, they are also a bit over rated for value. IF in fine condition, most could be worth anywhere from $10 to many hundreds of dollars. some like the 23S, could be in the many hundreds of dollars.

Yes, not the Red Book. ebay sold or order a CDN greysheet if you want to make a fair offer.

Please take into account any FH coins - also full shield Verticals and Horizontals. To be fair - offer him 20% under what the same coin sold for at a real auction - not some made up guestimate in Grey Sheet or Red Book. Use Heritage auction archives. The market has slid in the last three/ fours years. Take that into account as well. You may be taken aback at the current prices of the 23-S. Its gone through the roof.

It is hard to put values on circulated Standing Liberty quarters. They are one of the more difficult coins to grade, and the watered down grading standards that the third party graders use are of little help. With no pictures, there is not much we can do for you. Generally the common dates are not that valuable in the circulated grades and not worth slabbing. Your friend will probably make some money since the coins were bought in the '70s, provided that they have not been cleaned, but you probably will not be able to retire one it.
