Your coin is called a Morgan dollar. They get their name from their designer. Your coin was minted in 1921 at the US mint in San Francisco. You can tell by looking on the reverse. You will see a small "S" located above the "DO" in the word "Dollar"

Nice find, funny what people leave or forget about isn't it. Looks cleaned, was it that way or you give it a bath? Really in good shape, reverse looks AU53, but obverse looks more worn, looks XF45. Thanks kind of a disparity side/side, may have been mounted where more wear on one side?

I did clean it up it was 90% black . Thanks for your reply

I agree that there is a noticeable difference in wear from side to side. Possibly mounted before obverse out.

Maybe in a belt buckle that was polished from time to time.

Yes, that is true. It destroys the surfaces and removes any mint luster (the cartwheel shine you see on new coins) that may be remaining. This also takes out some of the value.
