Hello everyone! Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I'm currently working on a mid grade (F-XF) SLQ set. I'm missing the '16 (obviously), '23-S, and the '19s from both branch mints. I live in Southern California, and make it out to the Long Beach show at least twice a year. Between shows, like many, I scour ebay for deals.

Came across this '19-D, which the seller says it "looks like a die break." I'm guessing the seller is referring to the dings around the neck area? The date is strong, but there isn't as much detail as I'd prefer. Even though I probably won't jump on it, just wanted more thoughts on this coin. Thanks!

It looks like the die break is across the top of the date to me

I see a small die crack coming down from the first 9 in the date. The lower arc of the loop in that 9 seems to have some damage or maybe just wear but that is insignificant in terms of the overall condition of the coin.

This piece appears to grade a solid, problem-free VG-10 so it may not meet the requirements for your set. Overall it looks original and attractive given the level of wear. I'm actually surprised the date is so clear. I like it but the full-retail price of $275 is not much of a bargain.

Agree about the pricing as well. I know it's generally understood that ebay is usually on the pricier side with the "buy it now" items, but without question, the 1919 D and S SLQ's are by far the most consistently overpriced coins across the board I've ever seen. It's hard to find them below Red Book prices, which are inflated values itself.

And at shows, dates like the 1916, 1921, and 1923-S are all "available." But over the last year or two when I've been on the lookout for the 1919 D and S, they are very sparsely available for the most part. These are just going to be very tough dates to fill.
