I'm considering bidding on the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...id=p3907.m29

For those experienced with Lincolns please tell me what you think about the grade. A true, problem free Unc?

Also, for you veteran Ebayers what is your opinion on the seller? The 99.4% feedback is worrisome, and he charges a restock fee on returns. Would you move on?

I'm no expert, but looking at his username on Toolhaus kills the deal for me. Lots of over graded coins, cleaned etc.. His shipping is rediculous, restocking fee lol, and the coin to be honest, doesn't have great eye appeal to me. I'd watch it, see how high it goes.

Just my 2/10 of a dime.

At cursory glance, I find the seller's claim of "High Mint State Grade RB" a bit much. "MS64RB"? no way--imo.
Those multiple reverse dings on ONE CENT are problematic and possibly would limit market should you decide to resell someday. It's hard to say any more from just photos, but other things could be going on here. Disclaimer: I'm no Lincoln guru, but I have a well-earned suspicion of ebay

I agree with both above. the coin is nice and it is RB but the shipping is out of line. why would the guy put his phone number in the auction lol. I would pay 20 for the coin if he had a shipping for 2 bucks or less I understand the insure thing but dont see a need for it on a low value coin. use your back button for this guy just to shorten the post lol

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'll pass.

Also, Gary. All points well taken, but as for the value of the coin I think you may have missed the "S".

Army, the current bid is $20. Unless you think it's a fake, I'd get in the mix and see if you can get it for under $100. Methinks, even with the damage, you'd pay up to $150 for that coin in VF condition. It doesn't look cleaned...it aint nearly a MS; so what? (really).

"watch" that item sell for $200 easily. I'm not telling you to bid competitively up to it's "value."

However, if I were in the mix for that coin, I might put a "highest bid" (I'm willing to pay) of $75 and see if I've already been outbid. Most likely so.

Also, with the obsession, compulsion, and other collateral madness that is Numismatics, that coin may jump 30% in value upon the new year.

It looks to be AU 50 to 55. My max bid would be $120. If it goes over $130 including shipping I would pass.

USAP, my sentiments run with everyone else. Slider, and overall a nice eye appealing coin. It my just be my suspicious nature, but the color on the obverse seem unusual. The high parts of Lincoln, especially, are darker with the rest of the coin very uniform. If you have ever looked at a coin that has had darkener applied, this tends to be the effect. There was someone who use to sell on the Bay that toned almost all their coins. Prettiest chocolate brown coins you ever saw and this one reminds me of those.

I have another mantra for the community: "Ignore the grade the seller gives!"

I agree with everyone else, over-graded and worrisome feedback; but still a nice looking coin if one can get it for under $100.

I don't think that coin is mint state, let along "high" mint state. It looks XF-AU to me. Still, it is a very nice coin, in spite of the outrageous shipping cost. I sure hope he includes insurance for that price!
When I buy coins off ebay, I try to get them for about half the book value, maybe 60% including the shipping cost.
The book says this one is worth about $225-$250, so I'd be looking to get it for $150 or less. Maybe a little more if I REALLY REALLY wanted it at that time.
It'll be interesting to see how high it goes. I'm guessing that someone will actually bid as if it's an MS60-61, because of the seller saying that it was a high grade MS coins.
I wouldn't call it Red/Brown either. I'd call it Brown/brown. The color designation doesn't have much effect unless a coin actually is mint state, in which case Red coins can go for 50% more than RB's and RB's can go for up to 50% more than browns.

You'd think someone selling a coin like that would at least link to some high res pics.

That's an AU coin at best, CDN $210-230. I don't see the red he's talking about....then again he graded at MS64. LOL
