I found this 1966 Jefferson nickel today. It seems to have this blob looking thing on it. Can anyone tell me if it is an error or not?

Monticello suffered damage in an earthquake I guess?

I'll try to help with the photo.

I recently found a few modern US coins that survived a house fire, and one Quarter had a bubble in the middle that looked quite like that.

The only problem Kevin is that your coin was a clad coin. The different layers react differently in heat. This is is a solid planchet coin with copper/nickel mixed in metal. If we saw the obverse, I bet it was with a round punch on that side creating an incuse area on the reverse a raised area.
