Just wondering about this quarter. It has a "yellow tint" on both the obverse and reverse. I'm pretty sure it isn't one of the "plated" ones that the coin tv shows sell. I pictured it next to a "normal" quarter to show the contrast. Just looking for opinions on this.
I have some State Quarters that I received in the mail from some yearly State Quarter thing that my grandma bought for me. I usually just tossed the envelopes in with the rest of my coins unopened. Well, since they are BU, I took them out the other day and put them in 2x2's. One envelope that I opened up had a distinct gold tone to them, not much different then yours I think. It is hard to tell without the coin in hand. but, I have no idea really, just letting you know that I have some that are similar.
Thanks for all the responses so far. Whatever it is (or caused it), it is very uniform. The pictures I posted are some what accurate, but the coin in question is definitely a "lighter" yellow in hand.
Many things can cause this from heat to acids that are in paper. If the coins that were in the envelope turned yellow, they wre probably not in an acid free envelope. Due to the even tone on the coin in the picture above, I am guessing it's the same thing.
