Me again, please check out this 2001 quarter. As you will be able to see by the pictures, there is a line that runs across Washington's face. The line appears to be "raised" and not a "gouge". Just curious what your thoughts are on the cause. Also I know the "taboo" about cleaning coins, but what would be the recommended solution to pretty this up so I can get a better look? Acetone, or just plain distilled watter?

Looks like it got hit by a low angle rare frog meteor..... thats my assessment. The frog didn't make it. Post mint.

Hi,

It is post mint damage. I can't tell you exactly what contacted the coin. I am not trying to be funny when I say whatever damaged the coin was green in color. The coloration you see is a residue of whatever this coin came in contact with.

Thanks,
Bill

looks like the coin may have a crack and the residue & dirt has stuck to it?

Hi,

Why would it stick only to the damaged area and not to other parts of the coin?

Just curious...

The green color really appears to be transfer from one object to another. Otherwise whatever the green is would likely be someplace else as well.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks for all of the in-sight so far. Also, there was green residue on the reverse too, but it only showed "normal" wear.

I tend to agree with the frog meteor theory.

I see little, diagonal, parallel line through the streak. It must have been caused by some sort of machine. Post mint for sure.
