This Morgan looks nice and it's up for sale for another 5 days. It has a BIN price of $149. Should I? Oh, and Susan, feel free to paste my pics on this email if you're listening and of a mind.

Stephen, it certainly does look nice, but I don't think it would grade out above MS-63 due to what looks like bag marks on Liberty's face and the obverse field. 1885 (P) Morgans don't reach $149 until about MS-65 and even then, it would have to be already slabbed by one of the top four at that price. If it were graded as prooflike (and no doubt it's a sharp srike) in maybe MS-64 already in a PCGS slab, it might reach the BIN price. However, as a raw coin, it's not worth the BIN price in my opinion. Maybe $100 max. If you want to list the auction here, we might be able to give you a better opinion based on the whole auction (e.g., seller's feedback, experience, description, etc.).

I have to agree with Fred. While this coin has loads of eye appeal, I wouldn't grade it above MS63 even with the PL quality. It's a shame about the chatter on the cheek and neck. I feel that even $100 is a little high on this one.

I found the auction in question but didn't post it here as that is up to you. I can understand not wanting competition for an auction. I looked at the seller's feedback and there are quite a number of comments that coins are not as described. Even though she accepts returns, I would be very, very cautious in my dealings with her. I get the impression that she's VERY good at photography and lighting and not so good at accurately representing her coins.

Thanks for advice. In fact, I was trying to figure out a way to fit something like "Yo, Fred!" in the title of the thread, since you are the god of Morgans (smily face). This one sure looks pretty. But as you pointed out, the price is excessive in any event. I'm grateful for the heads up about this seller, Susan. I thought I posted the e-address of the auction around here somewhere.
Rest in Peace

Stephen, be careful of putting me on a pedestal which I don't deserve. I'm just a Morgan nut, but no expert (although flattery is ALWAYS welcome - it feeds my hungry ego ) . If I have any advantage over others, it's because I have Bowers' great book on Morgans to which I constantly refer and a number of other Morgan references and catalogs plus my own collection with which I can make comparisons.

I also found the auction and while I have had no experience with the seller, it's pretty clear from her feedback that she exaggerates the quality and grade of her coins and can take a pretty picture. Pretty typical of too many ebay coin sellers.
