I have it between VF25 and VF30. I think its leaning more toward 30. as for price cant help with that, however, it does appear to have been cleaned and most likely it would receive a details designation

VF-35 details. Might have been an ex jewelry piece. If you are looking for a type coin I would recommend passing on this one I watch for something nicer.

If I got it for $350ish is that worth it at that point?

Agree VF-35 details, not the most appealing.

Looking at PCGS and NGC price guide for those grades, it seems a value of $600 is in the ballpark. PCGS also states less than 475 survive for this year

I might be tempted at $350. The coin has issues which will require a big discount in price.
PCGS numbers are a topic by themselves. I can assure you there are far more than 475 of these surviving.

A decent buy for that coin.

The two pictures make this coin look like night and day. The first looks like a pleasant, lightly circulated piece that could grade EF-40. The second one makes look like a heavily abraded problem piece that would have to struggle to make VF. You can't get hurt to much at $300.
This coin has been on my want list for while. I believe I have not been able to find a nice AU or low end Unc., but I haven't. I've been at auction and have beaten by a guy who paid beyound retail for a coin that was just okay and nothing more.

It'll be interesting to see it in hand billjones to see which picture it is more like.
I've also wanted this coin for a while and it seems many people neglect them in their gold type sets. I wanted to include this and the $5

I've also wanted this coin for a while and it seems many people neglect them in their gold type sets. I wanted to include this and the $5 The 1835 quarter eagle is a somewhat better date. It is scarcer than the 1834 and 1836 quarter eagles, but not nearly as rare as the Charoltte and Dahlonega pieces, and the 1839 $2.50. You are correct in your thoughts that adding the Classic Head $2.50 and $5.00 gold coins to your gold type set adds interest. I am working on the complete set of $2.50 and $5.00 gold coins. I'm down to four pieces and have most of the rare ones. For whatever reason I have not had much luck with the 1835 $2.50.

Quote: If I got it for $350ish is that worth it at that point? Pretty good deal at that price if it is problem free. While I was on the hunt for the $5 & $2.50 it was easier to find the $5 and at a lower price. The $5 in VF was in the $500 plus and the $2.50 were in the mid $600 and up.
