Hi all, was wondering opinions on this 1833 Half Cent... just from looking up grades and other examples I am leaning towards perhaps Fine (15 possibly) details? I only think it was cleaned due to the stuff around the date and stars and the scratches on it but am still trying to get the hang of telling cleaned coins. Other opinions would still be appreciated and it still seems like a nice type coin! Thanks,   Edited by Mister Kairu 02/28/2017 11:15 am

With that being said, Jerry, I was wondering what the grading standards on this site mean by "Fine - ... hair on top worn at spots". Would this coin have that? I see there is some wear on the top part of the hair above the "IB" so wasn't quite sure about whether it actually got a VF grade or not. Thanks!

So are Coinfrog, Panzaldi, and I the only ones that see cleaning on this then? Just wanting to see if the things I am seeing are real indicators that it is cleaned, even if this picture makes it look nicer than it really may be in hand. Thanks!

I think VF-25. I'm not convinced it's been cleaned, at least not enough to warrant details.

VF-25, with photos always hard to tell for sure if cleaned. With all the dirt still in the protected areas, this one looks original to me.

I'm basing my thoughts on cleaning on the washed out surfaces that have even color throughout. for a coin that is 180 yrs old in VF grade the coin is too clean. there is not even any build up in the denticles

VF25. I think it is attractive.

Well I thought it was quite attractive as well, even if cleaned a bit (doesn't seem to be harsh or distract from the details of the coin) so I went ahead and bought this coin. Made it better than I got the 8% ebay bucks seems to be slightly higher details but also price than other VFs I see on ebay but we will see when the coin comes if it is still worthy or not. After ebay bucks I basically then bought it for $69. Not a terrible deal especially if I like the look of it once it arrives! Thank you everyone for your opinions on grade!

Here it is in hand. Does it seem right? Weighs 5.32 grams on my scale seemed like a bit of weight loss but wasnt sure. Opinions on the in hand coin? Thanks!
