Hey guys. It's been over a year since I've posted a thread here, but I'm getting back into numismatics and figured this would be a good thread to start off with.

The price difference between the 1932-S Washington quarter in AU and MS is crazy - almost triple, so I wanted to ask the community what you guys think. He's real pretty in person and still has plenty of cartwheel luster, as both an MS and AU coin should have.

Edit: Sorry for the rotated images. I literally rotated them in every direction and it still turned out like that. No idea why. Just turn your computer on its side I guess.

The first photo seems to show friction on Washington's cheek and hair curls, plus two small digs in front of the date. There also appears to be a long scratch from the forehead out to the rim and another behind the head. However, those scratches don't show in the second photo and friction is much less apparent. The reverse shows weak detail on the eagle's breast and thighs but that could be strike-related. Toning appears attractive and natural.

Photos taken straight-on (not angled) are usually better for grading. My best guess would be AU-58 with a possible "details-scratch" problem flag if the first photo accurately depicts the coin.

The first photo seems to make those tiny nicks really stand out. I'll post a few from straight-on. The scratches are barely visible. The other pictures better represent the surfaces of the coin.

back! It's been a while.

Nice, but I think it is a little bit short of MS.

I'm awful at grading Washingtons, but I'd agree with you guys. Thanks for everyone's input!

I see lots of luster, MS-63. I think the hair weakness is probably due to the strike.

Reverse looks MS , Obverse looks AU 58 though I don't like those Obv. scratches . I don't think it will make details .

Just so you have something to compare to, this 1936-D (which I no longer own) was graded AU53 by PCGS:

Key-Date-Washington-Quarter---High-AU-Or-Low-MS?

Key-Date-Washington-Quarter---High-AU-Or-Low-MS?

And this is my current 1932-S, a PCGS/CAC MS63 example, although slightly overlit in these old pictures:

Key-Date-Washington-Quarter---High-AU-Or-Low-MS?

Key-Date-Washington-Quarter---High-AU-Or-Low-MS?
