Hello I'm looking to purchase a indian head gold coin and I have heard there are Counterfeits circulated. Any help in distinguishing this would be much appreciated, thank you! Respectfully

My simple advice to you is that if you're a novice buy a certified coin.Especially an expensive coin.

Peter, Thank you for your help. I looked it up and have seen the coin has value. The reason for checking with the community is because I have a chance to buy this coin for around $20 dollars due to an estate type sale. One mans trash maybe another mans treasure if you know what I mean. Respectfully

Looks fake, I would not spend even $20 on this.

Coin23, to a the funny farm! A gold coin like that is 1/4 oz, $350 up in ANY auction when real. Look closely at the stars, that's the first thing I look at, are they the same, are points even not "smeared". Next is color/patina. Good doesn't usually dull in that manner, now this isn't a surefire method of determining authenticity, weight is. If you can weigh it and compare to what its ssuppoed to weigh, not enough worn to be that off. And finally, with Mark and Coinlover, its too good to e real, be a waste of money. Fakes can be had for $10 or less.

Will you have a chance to inspect the coin in hand? Typical of this series, all of the lettering should have an "outline". That "outline" seems to be either missing, or smoothed out on the photo above. Could be fake.

First of all the stars on obverse and lettering on the reverse look off, and the CCF Coin Facts page says all 1915-D are counterfeit.

With the picture rotated, thought one of the leaves was a badly formed D, oops.

Looks off. Also missing the word IN in in God we trust. I wouldn't touch with a 20 foot pole.
