Good deal? The coin is in G condition.

Not having a current Red Book, this was cheaper then what it was listed for in my 1999 version.

Whats the difference between red and blue books?

Well......most people will say to use "either" book just for the information......and ignore the dollar values.....that's good advice.
Blue Book....what Dealers will pay...(not accurate)
Red Book.....selling price....(not accurate either!)
Dealers try to buy cheap and sell high for profit margin and it's all subjective too.....depending on numerous variables.
But ignore that too.....because at the time of printing the prices for Silver, gold, copper, or even coin values can change SO MUCH !...When the edition (either Red or Blue) arrives in your bookstores.....the "price info" is already OUTDATED !(if it was ever really accurate anyway)
Basically something is only worth what you can find someone to pay[b]you for it at any given time...[/...
ebay is a good check/reference to see what stuff is going for....

$2.04? $2 maybe...but I dunno about that extra 4 cents.

Heh, I kid. I collect IHCs, and that seems under retail, but do you have a pic? I just say this because so much mischief is committed against coins in this series to make them look better, grade better, etc. To the degree I will not buy any more on eBay--only dealers and shows.

Btw--there are also a few varieties for 1880 that I could help you spot.

1880-Indian-For-$2.04?

Hah, yeah the $.04 cents is a huge deal. I sniped it on ebay and the price is with shipping, so that was a factor as well. I figure why not take a chance - its only 2 bucks!

I've never bought ANYTHING on ebay for that very reason !.......people do use it as a current "price guide" however.
See what Kurt thinks about the quality of your purchase.......

Heh, at $2.00, I won't be too heartbroken if its a bad deal. The guy has never had a negative feedback so he cant be far off.

Being a poor college student, I have to take em where I can get em :P

I think it was a good deal. Its an earlier date and I can tell you from searching many bulk lots, the early 1880s are heavily under-represented, so I am not convinced that the price for 1880 should be the same as 1890 or 1900. Most price guides have all the coins from 1880-1909 being about the same in price except for 85, 86, 94, and 09 (and of course 08S and 09S keys). I think currently 09 is overpriced and the early 80s are underpriced.

It's a small pic--got a reverse shot? The color looks good to me, and yeah--only $2.04
When you get a more detailed shot of the date, I'll be able to tell you more. There's a few cool varieties where they used a broken date punch on the 1880. Oh, and a really valuable coin with a off-axis reverse die clash.

Looks like a nice buy to me. ebay can be a nice source of lower cost coins; especially if you can group a purchase with one seller and consolidate shipping costs.

In my opinion...buy it. 2 bucks isn't that bad. Plus you get a coin that is 128 years old!
