I sold an item last Saturday then I waited another 4 days for a payment, This PayPal payment then came through as a E-cheque that was supposed to clear yesterday, It didn't
What am I to supposed do with a seller like this? especially when they are bidding on my currant listings.

It doesn't hurt to write your concerns to ebay. It sucks but this way, at least ebay is aware that you are not comfortable dealing with a certain buyer. And if the item is of high value, ensure that the postage is registered to prove that you have done your end. Some fuzzy buyers may lie that they never receive it and you end up losing by default.

Just block them from bidding on your auctions.

Let me just play devil's advocate for a second. You got paid, but had to wait a bit. It would bother me, but I might put up with it to make a sale. Also, I'd be careful about blocking, until my business was finished with said buyer, or could be risking a negative feedback.

If payment doesn't clear within 48 hours (or before your current listings they bid on end) then I would cancel their bids. Call ebay and they can walk you through that process if you've never done it. You can also block them from bidding on your future listings as noted above.

Also consider noting in your auctions that "cleared payment must be received within 3 days of auction closing" or some similar wording.

Screw the Neg feedback, One phone call to ebay and this will "Go Away" Due to the "History" of the transaction.

Let us know how it turns out. Early in my selling career, I got paid with an e check for the most expensive coin I ever sold. Granted they paid quickly, but it still took what seemed like forever for the check to clear. It was stressful, but I dealt with it. Maybe I'm missing something here but don't see this as a deal breaker problem. Did the check clear yet?

BH1964, I was thinking along your lines...

As for me, the two things I would do:

1. Write up some TERMS AND CONDITIONS and put them on EVERY listing. Put something in there indicating that payments via PayPal are expected to be received within one business day. If they don't pay on time, charge them a late fee and hold the coin until they pay it - I charge 10% per day late.

2. Block these people from bidding on your items ASAP.

I would say to also leave them negative feedback, but the idiots running ebay pretty much make it impossible to do - you report them and ebay does nothing. They now try to homogenize everyone so that it's next to impossible to tell apart bad buyers from good ones. It makes no difference to the people at ebay whether the person paying takes one day to pay or 14... all they care about is that the person paid. A deplorably bad way to do business IMHO.

I have had echeques before But this instance is different.
We aren't talking Sheep Stations here either just a lousy $75 But after getting a couple of BS emails from the buyer about being out of town thus the delay in payment (If you can send an email you should be able to send a PayPal payment) it was 4 days later that the echeque was sent with a couple of explanatory emails saying that it isn't unusual for the echeques to occur.
The payment has yet to clear 6 days after being issued, PayPal said it would take 3 days.
It's Not about the money, It's about the inconvenience and there is also this nagging feeling that someone is trying to pull a bit of a "Swifty" here.
I haven't cancelled the sale But the member will remain on my blocked buyers list all the same.

That's pretty tough. 90+ % of my auctions are paid right away but on a larger ticket purchase where a funds transfer / deposit is needed one day.....even one business day is not enough time.

My philosophy is if your going to buy coins on ebay and pay via PayPal then make sure you have the money in your account first. That's what I always do when I am gunning for a coin, it's called proper planning.

If it is a "Buy it Now" I will pay as soon as I have purchased the coin and with auctions I pay as soon as I get the invoice.
Very easy and very simple to do and also a courteous and honest way to do business.

When you get burned by rogue buyers one too many times thanks to ebay's anti-seller mindset, you have to put in safeguards. I've been a victim, unfortunately. When Meg was running things there, it was so much better.

As it should be. I also have it noted in my T&Cs that if they have an issue paying on time to let me know before they buy it.

Now you can require immediate payment when a buyer makes a purchase. I do that for most and if someone has a problem then send me a message and I disable it.

Merlin, how do you enable this feature? Is it triggered when people want to purchase multiple items as a single PayPal transaction?
