Well, depends. A large lens isn't always good for close-ups, as I learned the hard way.

When you do this: You really need the lens pictured above. I shot this buffalo in South Dakota from about 10 feet away. They are 2000 pound beasts that can run at 40 miles per hour. Yes, he'd run me down and trample me. My wife was none to pleased with me when I took this shot... They're a magnificent animal but with the lens pictured above I can get this shot from a safe distance now.

I don't call 10' a safe distance but great shot.

Mcshilling you are correct. The shot as taken was taken not with the lens shown but rather 16-50mm lens. Hence the tongue in cheek remark. The liens shown will allow me to stay back a much safer distance and get a similar shot. I DO NOT recommend anyone try what I did on this buffalo shot. If it's not safe and I would have done it differently if I had it to do over again. Hence the new lens.

Coin197, I was only kidding. This lens is completely inappropriate for shooting coins.

Timnic44- it's an awesome lens. I plan on doing a ton of wildlife photography this year.

It would be too sensitive to seismic waves to get clear and unblurred pictures.

Btw may be it is possible on 1/3" sensor. It is my experiment with 3,5/135mm old russian lens called Jupiter 37A-MC Shot of the HDMI-TV screen which was projected from ~3 feet distance from the ring by the hdmi 2MP camera
