Hey everyone, I've got that totally lost and overwhelmed feeling from having no clue how to work towards a decent setup. Right now I do my best taking pictures on my phone, which is very clumsy indeed.

Ultimately I'd like a setup that allows me the comfort of viewing a good image of a coin without having to constantly crane over to peer through a loupe. I'm sure the cost of the setup would eventually equalize with the money I wouldn't spend getting chiropractic adjustments.

Anyhow, I know I'll need a real camera and a stand to position it, plus some way to connect this to a computer and the software to manipulate the image. Anything else I'm not thinking of? And can anyone offer some advice on choosing an adequate setup without breaking the bank?

Thanks so much. =)

I am not promoting any of these, but I'd ( we would, I assume ) like to know what is the best bang for the buck. Can the whole coin be imaged as well as small details such as rpm's and doubled dies with these gadgets?

Simple suggestion is get something USB 5 Megapixel (size) w/ a tall vertical pole for adjustment for full view of larger coins. Link for ebay has some, less than $100 would work. Mine was $45 and modified to larger pole of 14".

I would get an older Nikon DSLR camera and the 18-55 mm lens, as well as 2 Jansjo IKEA lamps.
