Beautiful toning on obverse, slightly more wear on reverse, I'd say a problem-free AU-53.

That is a beautiful coin! I'd say XF-45 ever so close to AU-50.

One of the XF diagnostics is that the top feather of the eagle is separated by an uninterrupted line. If you look at the right wing, the line is slightly but clearly interrupted. I have this at VF35, even though the rest of the coin is better than that. I paid XF money -- I thought the pretty toning deserved a premium due to eye appeal.

This one was graded AU50 by the seller and I purchased it for $115. Unlike the 1894, it was not listed as having been cleaned. Although it was not as sharp and high grade as the other, I thought it had an attractive color that deserved a premium. I will post in hand pictures later in the week. Thoughts on whether I overpaid for this one appreciated.

i think you overpaid on this one, however, the obverse has nice eye appeal and if you like it then thats all that counts

the coin was weakly struck on the reverse so I would discount a little for that and I misunderstood your one comment. you stated that you paid XF45 $ for it which would have been about $85. thats what I was basing my comment on. if you thought you were paying 45 money I think you overpaid.

I found one with a better reverse strike AU50 raw that recently sold for $85. you paid retail at an AU50 price which is ok but not a deal. personally I would have looked for one with a better reverse strike for that money, however, the toning would add a little value to it so its probably a wash.

Thanks again. I have a tough time determining what a fair price for anything is. Agree that I paid au50 retail and not xf money as I stated earlier. I think I had $100 on my mind when I wrote that.
