Just as I suspected - part of another set of coins to get us to buy more after buying the traditional uncirculated set for $24.95 that includes the traditional 50 cent. And then the set on the map (maple leaf card holder) for $34.95 to get the new celebration circulating coins including the coloured ones but not the celebration 50 cents.

And now a set for $26.95 with the new circulating coins and the new 50 cent piece with the 150 celebration design.

With tax those three items are over $90 and not much to show for it. Each set leaves something out that the other two sets have, yet lots of duplication when buying all.

Can I not buy the New Canada 150 Fifty Cent Piece on its own?

Lots of options, that's for sure. This year it happens there's two different 2017 Uncirculated Sets, one 6-coin Classic design and one 8-coin Canada 150 design (your link). In addition to the coins in the two Uncirculated Sets, the Map set would be unnecessary and it appears as if it was designed mainly as a gift item, a memento of sorts.

Each year Special Wrap rolls of 50c are sold, this year apparently we'll also see two we well, one for each design. They also sell for about $25 each and it seems many collectors have shifted from collecting one 50c to a sealed roll (including me).

ebay would be the place to buy a single 50c from a set or roll that's been broken up, if the sets don't interest you.

In hindsight, the Map set is not needed, but for people who bought it to get the new coins not knowing a set of six was coming this month, it makes for unwanted coins. Looking for a single 50 cent might be appealing to me.

The mint could have added the two 50 cent pieces to the $34.95 Maple Leaf cardboard holder and charged $40 and that is all one would have needed to have everything. But no, that would have been too simple!

Yes I agree, it's an underhanded way of taking advantage of their buying customers that does nothing to build loyalty. It's as if the secrecy from month to month is supposed to be exciting, yet to me it closely resembles deception. What RCM should've done is inform the public of all 2017 Canada 150 releases in advance, what and when, so everyone could make better informed choices.

Agreed a set with all of the 2017 coins would be the best option, however, for me the Maple Leaf is ok. I assume that's what you are calling the 'map' unless there is a map set I haven't seen.

It's a good display piece and I don't care about 50 cent pieces. They haven't been circulation coins in a long time and are vestigial appendices IMO. I don't collect them per se. I also don't think the mint has offered a single 50 cent piece recently other than the $14.95 single coin Everyday Tartan in 2013. Fifteen dollars for one 50 cent piece with a slip of fabric.

But I would be shocked if they don't put out even more options to buy these coins. Maybe they'll put out a colourized 50 cent piece.

This one was proposed...though it only has one of the 50 cent pieces...

No, 50 cent pieces are usually only sold in sets.

But they may sell them in rolls like they do for the yearly 50 cent pieces.

Of course you can always get 50 cent coins in the secondary market as people break up sets or rolls and sell them as singles.

I'm holding off. This place is charging more than I'm willing to pay for the 50 cent piece. For a little more you can just buy the set!

The circulation coins will eventually be released with lots of PR to follow.

Let's hope all these combinations is not the start of a new marketing gimic.

"This place" .....

The coin that they sell even not from silver set.

According to the other forum, back in time, when coin pre-sales on ebay were relatively new, "the place" complained on the pre-sellers, or had a tactics to buy and not to pay.
Maybe nowdays this different, but I avoid buying from them.
