Planchet error I found on a 1924 Peace dollar. This ones going into my type book as I always like coins that are different.

Looks a bit like glue residue; have you tried acetone?

It is a different piece of metal. Tried acetone first but the more I look at it the easier it is to see.

Could it have possibly been struck through something? And maybe that something is retained?

It's certainly odd shaped.

Edit: Actually, from about north to south it's nearly symmetrical.

The area shows different color than the rest of the coin. I concurred with others to give this lady an acetone bath first, then tell us more with the result.

These pictures are post acetone bath. Looking at it physically there is a clear margin around the inclusion, I'm sure its not glue or another substance on the surface. It is also flush with the face of the coin.

It looks almost like a small piece of metal landed on the planchet before it was pressed! That's cool.
