I have been offered two coins, this is the first. Would appreciate your thoughts on the grade, eye appeal, problems and price you might pay. Thanks! 1795 Draped Bust/Small Eagle Dollars Off-Center Bust (Lowest Hair Curl Distant from Star 1) Variety: BB-51, B-14, R-1I have this at F15 details scratched. I see three comparables at auction graded Fine details scratched, net graded VG8 that sold for $1,764-$2,000. Comps were graded by NGC (2) and ANACS (1). All had slightly better detail than subject and had a much less noticeable scratch (only 1) in reverse. This one is more obviously scratched. Twice in front in the middle in the middle of the main device (Liberty) and north-south the entire length of the reverse. I would guess that this may sell at a large auction for $1,400 due to severity and centrality of scratches if authenticated by PCGS/NGC. I could live with the light cleaning, which to me is evident mostly on the obverse but the graffiti kills it. I would pass unless it was $1,000 and I doubt they'd go that low.

The thing about scratches is they become way more noticeable once you fork over the money and take the coin home.

Is the reverse scratch not an adjustment mark? If it were my coin I would pretend it was.

Great idea....just add some more parallel "adjustment marks" to it, let it tone another 200 years or so, then revisit the issue on the Global Galaxy Antique Obsolete Metal Disk Forum!

The scratches in the middle of the coin are post mint damage. My grade would be Fine sharpness, scratched. It was also cleaned long ago, probably with something like baking soda. If it were not for the scratches, I think that it would get a grade.
