I have been offered two coins, this is the second. Would appreciate your thoughts on the grade, eye appeal, problems and price you might pay. Thanks!

1799 Draped Bust/Heraldic Eagle Dollars
Obverse Stars Arranged 7 left & 6 right
Normal Date/9's with Spurs
Five Berries on Olive Branch
Lowest Obverse Stars Normal Size
Liberty's Curl below Right Half of E in LIBERTY
Right Obverse Stars Evenly Spread
Right Foot of A over Junction of Clouds 3 & 4
Variety: BB-167, B-14, R-2

I have this one at VG08 straight. Some problems but market acceptable.

Auction records search shows sales clustered between $940-1057 TPG straight graded in PCGS and NGC holders.

The first one was nice but it had major scratches. This one doesn't, but probably an older cleaning. I'd go with this one, less damage

Those are some of the nicest coins minted from the late 1700's I have seen - Maybe they are legit but at least cleaned, right? I would not buy them unless certified. Just my thoughts.

i think you are spot on. I agree that it may have had a cleaning some while ago but still market acceptable. a few scratches here and there but none that distracting. I would grade the reverse G7 as its kind of between 6 and 8.

i do not collect these so I cant give any opinion on value but I like this one

Not in love with it, but I think it makes VG-08 straight as well.

I see a W in the right obverse field that looks like deliberate graffiti to me. I'd pass.

I would say VG8 but obv. graffiti as noted. Definitely cleaned, but that's like saying cows go moo -- finding uncleaned ones is like getting struck by lightning after winning the Powerball.

Unless you collect the series or really need one on a low budget for a type set, I'd pass. With this series in particular, especially if you are collecting by type, you will be much happier if you buy the best specimen you can afford, at a given price level. If your budget is, say, $2,000, then find the nicest $2,000 coin you can find, and ignore the wear grade/sharpness grade. You might end up with a nice F+/VF instead of a VF+ with problems, but it will be much easier to upgrade in the future, if you desire, or to flip it, or even just easier on your eyes when you pull it out of the cabinet. Just my opinion, don't take offense. :)

I cannot say definitively graffiti.
But, VG8 sounds about right to me.
