Nice old copper with a high amount of detail remaining for this type of coin. I don't often find George I copper coins available for sale.

That's a dandy! Most all of those earlier British Copper pennies and half pennies that I have are smooth and worn. Congrats Here's an interesting site I just found that may be helpful to anyone who might like these Great Britain coins. http://www.coinsgb.com/

I have a few but they all quite worn and blackened. Well done.

I think the OP's coin has been harshly cleaned in its lifetime

I've always liked these and Croker's designs, particularly for the reverse, are very pleasing. Is it my imagination or does your coin have inverted A for V in Georgivs?

I am sure this coin has been cleaned, but I wouldn't classify the cleaning as harsh. It exhibits no hairlines or scratches indicative of a harsh cleaning in my opinion. I find these coins very difficult to come by with this level of remaining detail.
Hogarth, it is not an inverted A, just a V. The V's often devolve into looking like inverted A's for this series, but if you look at an A in Britannia you will notice they don't match up.
I like this design as well, just wish that it wasn't in such high relief, often times the details never struck up fully, or they wore down very fast. A coin of this era with ALL the head/laureate detail is a really rare thing indeed.

Just wishful thinking on my part as you're quite correct the A and V are clearly different. Full detail on these George I coppers is indeed a rare thing. Here's my 1718 'N over A' again, nowhere near perfect but retaining a little more detail than most we're likely to encounter. I also have a 1717 copper proof in a similar grade. I'll post photos over the weekend if time allows.

Really nice N over A 1718 Hogarth! I have only seen the one from the Nicholson collection. I also like that the I in GEORGIVS is also punched over a lower I. I have a 1717 which possibly has an N over A. I will have to make another thread for that one.

. and mine is a higher grade than the Nicholson coin. It's not often we get to say that! Yes, please do post the possible N over A 1717, I'd be very interested to see it.
