Hello everyone! I previously posted this and got some replies that the coin was altered. I went to my local NGC dealer and his opinion without having to pay to have it authenticated was that it was a die crack.
Could you all take another look to see, we were looking at the edging of the coin and the way the lettering is aligned on the obverse and the reverse led us to believe this was a minting error from the plant.

Thanks again and I am linking better photos for the best opinion.

IMO when a coin has been around the block as many times as this one has, it's really hard to tell what happened to it.
Rest in Peace

I see a reverse MAD. Coin was tilted in collar so that pressure in the 11 o'clock position on the obverse is deeper. This makes the 5. o'clock position have less press sure but offset as well. The Curved line seen is actually the die edge, not a crack. This is not an off-center strike, just misaligned. I'm sure it was loose enough to cause quite a racket, wonder what the missing operator was doing?

Thank you, I looked that up and that's probably what it is. I've just been wondering since the coin looked like it wasn't worn much for the age yet it looked very odd around the edges.
