Hi all. I'm looking on ebay at the silver eagles for sale and I see one that is graded by NGC as "Gem Uncirculated" in stead of the usual MS-x. I looked on the NGC website and Gem Uncirculated is not in the scale (from PR-1 to MS-70). I was wondering why NGC would give this grade to a coin. Is this a new grade or an unusual grade?

These are usually bulk submissions used for promotional purposes. I have also seen them with the Presidential dollars. Jim

Would these be worth any more or less that a regular MS-68,69,70?

I think it would be worth about as much as a non slabbed silver dollar, since it doesn't have a grade and everyone knows that these are going to be uncirculated. And I agree that it was used as a promotional item.

Yeah, what amaxon99 said. Also, NGC is not exactly the best people to buy/grade coins from. In my opinion that is.

NGC is one of the top three. PCGS is the top. or you get more bang for the buck with them anyway Gary

this is just as was said used for bulk submissions and a coin labeled Brilliant Uncirculated can be anything from MS-60-MS-64 and MS-65-MS70 would be Gem Uncirculated (this is the answer I got over at NGC's forum about a Morgan dollar graded BU). The submitter gets a break on the submission fee's and can get all their 70's slabbed and the ones that don't meet the 70 they get the Gem Uncirculated or Brilliant Uncirculated grade

There are rules against members with less than 50 posts and 14 days membership posting links to their own ebay auctions or websites. Even after those criteria are met, ebay links posted for promotional purposes must be posted in the B/S/T section under ebay and Other Auction Site Links. Members are actually encouraged to post links to auctions if they have questions or concerns about the auction. Oftentimes, we are not able to help members without seeing the auction or at least pics of the coin in question. For the most part, these posts should go in the ebay and Auction Site Discussion Forum but there are exceptions when someone wants to know about a specific coin that they are considering bidding on. I hope this answers your question.
