I decided to go through my change jar today, and found a 2000p Jefferson nickel that looks like this one from a post that was Posted 06/12/2013 from another member here. This is the link to the post http://goccf.com/t/151722#151722 This is the only pic. or coin with any resemblance,I could find.

I tried taking a pic. and it looks like rust like in 7Tf members post. In person it's a bright copper color.

mikediamond posted and said it's just stained. If thats the case if I take acetone to it it should come off right.
I'm not going to try that yet.

Any thoughts ideas or help would be well appreciated.
Rest in Peace

to the family!

Well, if you followed all 7Tf's arguments with Mile Diamond, then you know this isn't a sintered planchet. Without a pix of your coin, all any of us can do is guess. More than likely if this coin is universally all then same color, it's been plated, copper? If it appears blotchy and inconsistent, then it's some form of environmental damage. The nickel is not a clad coin like the dime or quarter but a mixed alloy, There is copper, nickel and tin, some manganese I think, so any staining will not be removed by acetone. Acetone removes organic substances, stains affect the metal.

You may have a simple plated novelty coin, put it in your oddities pile!
