Got this in change I think it's a Dryer Coin but not sure . The third image is the coin in question sandwiched in between to others .

It looks like it was rescued before severe damage could occur.

Neat find!
Rest in Peace

No, don't think so. All 68's head motto close to rim, when rim wears it loos like that. Also, have noticed plachets seem thicker on the 68S, think rims stick up a hair more, must be planchet development?

I had a coin, clad quarter that I tossed in a bag of tokens to consign. Thought a kid had taken a hammer and gone around the rim curling the inside copper layer over. Was size of nickel but 1/4". NOW that was a Dryer Coin, had no idea at the time, oh well, live and learn!

Here's what mine woulda looked like:

Thanks cwb! Crazy I it wasn't the rim as much as the bust. I know the rim gets thicker on a Dryer Coin but it is mainly thickness in the bust eyes sunk way in everything thicker and deeper . Like a capped die would look except the other devices are fine . And that quarter would have been sweet !

It just didn't spend a lot of time in whatever beat it up.
You can see the rounded battered look about the profile and other devices on both sides.
It could have been in a dryer, rock tumbler, or just some other machine that rattled it around, but it is showing signs of a repeated bumping against something.
