I have a 1951 Pr65cam lincoln and was thinking of selling so I called my local coin shop and was prepared to be offered a lower price than what I was thinking. After I was quoted 50 dollars I asked what the greysheet price is and was told the greysheet only lists regular proofs. I politely said thanks but no thanks. I guess what I'm asking does the greysheet not list lincoln proofs with the cameo designation? Also what would you expect a bigger retail coin dealer to offer for my coin sight unseen? I would understand if I was quoted the regular proof price because they wanted to make sure the coin was deserving of the cameo designation bUT I was told that in today's market they would expect to sell for 80 dollars.

I know in the Red Book it does not differentiate between a cameo and a non cameo.

It's housed in a NGC slab.

It looks like an NGC slab, and if its a 65 CAM, its worth a lot more than $50. Numismedia has it listed at $375 for a retail price. Before selling it, I suggest you get some more info about it. Shop around, and make sure to get multiple offers on it. http://numismedia.com/fmv/pricesms/...ices61.shtml

I've got my monthly coin meeting tonight and will ask what the more experienced collectors thoughts about the cameo contrast. I know 1951 NGC has only certified 20 something proof cameo 65s. PCGS pop is 49. I will confess that I have only owned this coin a short while and can still get a refund from the seller I bought it from. I'm not one to buy a coin because it's a deal (thinking If it's a mistake by NGC I can send it to be regraded or worst case send it back to the seller) but what is funny is that I bought this coin for 80 dollars on ebay and the guy I spoke to from the LCS picked 80 dollars because it was the lowest sold and complated sale on ebay ( which is this coin) is why I he offered me 50. I feel now that I should of asked the seller I bought it from why it's 80 bucks at the time of purchase. Probably would save time but to be honest I am having trouble if I was smelling opportunity or greed. In the end a deal on a coin is a coin that is going to be tough to sell. And already sight unseen it seems to be going down like that!

What reason would you give if you decided to return it to the ebay seller? This is going to be tough to resell? 172476718141 sold for $277.30

Different topic? Are you thinking of returning this? Do you need a reason? Bit confused.

Why not post it on ebay for $200 best offer?

My opinion is that certified coins only validate to value easily on highly sought coins. I would not personally be rushing out to get a 1951 PR65Cam for much more than what the dealer offered unless I was obsessed. My expectation would be that I could only get what I paid and then for some effort unless I happened to find a motivated buyer. Hold out to get your price or let it go if you need to divest. It has value but you need to find the right buyer and that takes time. If you don't have the time let it go.

Don't beleive I need a reason to return it. I have never sold a coin on ebay and have bought idk maybe 30 coins with 100% feedback but maybe I will put it up for a couple hundred bucks buy it now and see what happens. Appreciate the feedback from everyone. Thanks

Quote: Don't beleive I need a reason to return it. You don't need a reason if the seller accepts returns for "no reason", and you are within their stated return period. You didn't reveal the ebay item number, so I don't know if they do or don't accept "no hassle" (no reason) returns. You need a reason if you ask ebay to assist in the return after receiving the item. The only reason they accept is "not as described".

Good idea Benny. Try a BIN with a best offer option and see what happens.
