I am interested in finding out if this photo of GW was ever used in a currency? This engraving is the smallest known engraving of George Washington and was once part of the Museum of American Finance exhibit. I placed a penny next to GW to show how tiny this engraving is.

Any help is appreciated.

You may want to register on the Stamp side of the Forum here. There were may early issues of Washington in ovals like that, fairly sure that may be a lithograph for one.

I thought I might have a match up for you, but on closer inspection it's not. I'll post it anyway.

In 1840, banknote engraver Charles Toppan did this incredible micro-engraving of the *entire* text of the Declaration of Independence. It is surrounded by the state seals of the original 13 colonies, with mini-portraits of Jefferson and Washington at the top. The whole thing measures 1.5 x 2.5 inches.

Your Washington portrait faces right, however, and Toppan's faces left. And, in fact, it looks like yours is a little smaller. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a friendly competition between engravers to see who could produce the smallest portrait.
