Was searching through my old dimes for the last ones I need to complete
a 1937 to date album. Came across this 1940 with a rather large die crack have a look,comments welcome.

Does the crack continue through the E-N ? if so this would be a retained die crack.

@ace - at the base of the E-N the dark spot it does look like it does (through my loupe), but very faintly. I can not seem to get a better picture of that area though.
I am guessing it is still only worth melt,strictly for the niche collector or am I wrong there?

I don't follow error prices, but from your pictures it looks pretty beat up. I would venture to say you are correct.

To me it documents the deteriorating state of a die, thus worth keeping. Now, find one with lesser cracks but the same die.
