Cool find! Sharp eyes. Think what you have is a capped die, strike through. Imprint not consistent w/ a die clash, that would be the bust. Above the left wingtip in field I think is 2nd tip? Everything's distorted and shifted...striking through a planchet capped die.

It's glue residue or some other type of adhesive.

my first thought on the wing tip was glue like jasper said .... now the other dotes and lines that had to be in the die itself ..... I'm not sure of the dots but the lines might be from cleaning the die at the mint... let see what others say ... nice find ! very interesting

It looks like Elmer's glue to me.

It is sad when a rookie makes his time thinking of contributing something positive to the others and he notes that other members lose their motibacion and enthusiasm making unrelated comments. The criticism is constructive. And no one is born walking takes time !! This message is not for the older mabers is for the new ones that with enthusiasm time and money dedicate and enjoy to go to look and to share !! Keep coin hunting because the one who seeks finds !!

Zabdiel, that's a great perspective on it! A useful message to newer members who are told that they don't have something as valuable as they think.

I stayed away from commenting earlier because I had no clue what was going on. I thought you might have a die crack over DOLLAR on the reverse, but I don't look at quarters much. Is that just part of the glue residue?

Take note of how the marks remain consistent on the devices, just as in the fields.
If it were a die clash, you wouldn't see this.

I agree with Coop, although I'm not sure on the brand of glue or gunk.
