Hello all,

I just joined after starting to collect coins just earlier this month (literally March 2nd.) I have gone through about 12,000 nickles and 10,000 pennies in bank rolls and have found some interesting ones that Id like to get your opinions on. First off here is this Lincoln Cent. Is this lamentation error? I havent seen one yet in my research thats around the mintmark like this.

to CCF. That is called zinc rot. The copper plating gets split and reveals the zinc to the air.

It looks like zinc rot causing a bubble underneath the copper plating. It's the biggest bubble I've seen yet!

to the family!

Since you've looked, you probably noticed some post 1982 cents that had a silvery/blue color around the edges of the letters/date/MM's...this is where the thin copper plating has split in the stamping process. Air and other corrosives like moisture and skin oils gets in...zinc rot forms on the zinc planchet below the copper. Causes bubbles like yours(biggest I've seen), lines, even pox looking holes ending in the whole coin disintegrating(see coin star finds!)

I wish the images were larger. I would add them to my educational files.
