Some like a game? I was going to show both the obverse and reverse of this coin and ask if it's a known re-punch. Instead lets see if anyone can come up with the year with only seeing the obverse. Anyone want to Guess? To give more a chance I'll wait until tomorrow to post pictures of the reverse. I think it's a cool re-punch if there's no damage involved. Opinions please?

Yes, very good gidjit I'am impressed. I've got to ask, have you seen this re-punched "D" before? So here's the reverse. I know there're people studying the 1882 large cent maybe they can shed some light. I'am not sure what's going here. To me it looks strange, more like it was re-punched and then an engraving tool was used to get the top curved serif. Is this legit or a damaged coin? Any and all opinions welcome. Cheers, Bill

I have an 1882-H like yours Hounddog. I don't have a photo yet, but I'll try to take one later today and post it for you as soon as I can.

That's great to see another they look the same to me but yours would be a later die state and has a little more wear. Can you show the reverse also and see if we can match it, mine has a weak vine in a couple of spots. Thanks again guy's, I was hoping there were others, this look's promising. Cheers, Bill

Houndog and Phil, you coins are the same with Phils being a later die state. That D/D variety is fairly common. Papledog, yours is different. My expectation on your coin (if I have it right) is you will find an interesting lower serif on the N in CANADA. Slightly less common that the other one but still fairly easy to find. Nice coins all around.

Thanks Phil310 yours does look the same as mine and confirmed by Dan-in-crystal-lake. Thank's Dan I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and here I thought I'd found something new. You mentioned this is a D/D but don't these look like they're tripled? I really like this re-punch and the one that papeldog has shown us is even more interesting, nice coin. Thanks to all.
Cheers, Bill

Bill here's another D/D different than the other two shown in this post. I found it looking through my hoard of 1882's trying to find the first coin you showed to start your post but never found one but I found a few of these so they must be fairly common but different
