Interesting analysis wildflower However not sure if coin rolls wrapped in paper, plastic or bacon is the way to go with this hobby - Chances are extremely slim in finding a rare error or special one in the roll given the better quality controls in place and as well you need to unravel the wrap-which defeats the whole point of collecting rolls -finally, the extra mark up price of rolls don't justify this new niche

Not to mention that special wraps are not new....they've been common for more than a decade and in general have not shown themselves to even keep up with inflation. Serialized last penny rolls excepted.

That isn't a niche that I intend to pursue either. But if I was compelled to focus a collection on any one of the following, I'd still pick C. A. A variety (mish mash) of only low mintage new release NCLT. B. 2 or 5oz NCLT commemoratives. C. Circulation rolls. Quote:

Never before has a set of rolls (that's sounds a little crass lol!) ever been released. If roll collecting happens to spark the interest of a portion of NCLT collectors who've become somewhat disillusioned with the traditional monthly RCM offerings, watch for those old rolls to spike in value.

Anything that connects NCLT with the circulation side of collecting is positive for the numismatic hobby in general, in my opinion. On one end of the spectrum is the continual flow of newly released artistic creations that hold no resemblance to coin other than the effigy of the queen is on the back side that nobody looks at anyway. On the other far extreme end are circulation collections permanently frozen in time, never venturing beyond the year 1967, the end of silver, as if coin ceased to exist in the 50 years thereafter. There's not a lot of life in the middle ground of the two extremes to attract new collectors into the hobby aside from annually released RCM coin sets. Special wrap roll collecting would seem a nice fit.

Take the most recent special wrap roll to be issued, there's 50000 of the Stanley Cup version at around double face, these coins will be hoarded in the next few months when they are available through the regular banking system, just can't see how a special wrapper can be worth double face along with taxes.

For many of us it would cost far more than $10 in terms of gas and parking to seek and search for a mint roll of Stanley Cup quarters at a bank, not to mention the time factor and possible aggravation of bank lineups and traffic. All that just to save $10, no I don't think so. That'd be sort of crazy.

I've noticed some sellers on ebay are selling the non-special wrap Stanley Cup bank rolls for more than what the special wrapped rolls cost, in the range of $23-$35. The 10-coin packs which retail for $2.50 are also selling for $16. Keep in mind, these are hard to get in the USA which I assume is where these rolls and packs are going. There is a large hockey market in the US.

The flag quarters, especially the colour ones were nicely done sold for good premiums just after issue, but as I said earlier at many GTA shows dealers are lots at around 3 bucks premium, this scenario is not uncommon, people pay double prices not to wait in line for latest iphones, go figure

I like the idea of the special wrap coins for 2017 in a display box. I just hope that it is made of wood and not cardboard.

10oz coin so impressive!! 1000 mintage. Design in the style of Jody Clark. 5oz Maple leafs - not bad at all, but unnecessary curved coin (imo) Quote: I like the idea of the special wrap coins for 2017 in a display box. I just hope that it is made of wood and not cardboard. These looks so 'yummy' . The box is simple plastic with maroon black leather like surface. Same as for 2013+ Fractional SMLs sets (but black and black insert has slots for rolls and not coins). Huuuge disadvantage: no 50 cents coin, and the price. After all, it only and only packaging.

Issuing tradition rolls would clearly make the sale of the traditional sets (with a mintage of 75000) less desirable. They advertised it as extremely limited. Yet they're in many sets and possibly full rolls?

Yet they're in many sets and possibly full rolls? The "traditional rolls" - do you mean rolls with plastic wrap or rolls with traditional design? From all the info I can gather: "Anniversary designs" will be found in: circulation change, plastic wrap rolls, RCM sets, "special wrap" rolls (set of them + pair of 50c rolls). "Classic designs" will be found in: RCM sets, "special wrap" rolls (set as said by T1Steel + pair of 50c rolls). So for anniversary designs will be possible to get bank rolls for face value, but not classical designs. And for everything of above will be found collector. Some will buy everything and will get bank rolls. Added: Colonial Acres already sold-out their allocation of the roll sets to VIP members. Issue price CAD 185 + tax (face value CAD 92) and all are gone...crazy. Wow?!

C/A VIP price for the box of rolls was 179.00 plus tax. And you'd earn 200 points (equivalent to $6). I do like the $20 Vimy Sacrifice Medal. Very simple.
