@ Redzapsid -It is a RCM case that I customised. The way the RCM has done the 150th Anniversary coins and even the set I showed that was finalised in the mints own advertisements just goes to show how they ( RCM) mock us all as collectors. @ Dcadon- I am definitely out as well. Time to go stack bullion.

Any thoughts on the Canadian Honours 4 coin subscription?
I had planned to get the Sacrifice medal using the redemption code but I really don't want to get into another series. That said, I think the set with the Order of Merit, Order of Canada and Cross of Valour will be impressive. Honestly, a wooden box would have sealed the deal. Four coins in clamshells probably won't cut it so the set then become $440 plus the cost of a decent box elsewhere....probably too much.
Mintage of 3k instead of 5.5k might swayed me too. Anyone else drawn to this one?

Sounds very attractive, but: aren't they "paint applied on plain surface"?In analogy to "Moon Mask" set, possible, that demand will be low, and set will be available for significantly less than issue. Added: My mistake - there will be not painted elements of the design (looking on the "Sacrifice" image)

Quote: Oh no paint? According to the "Sacrifice" coin (check please page 4 in this thread), there is a paint and raised elements. Looks very nice. Lets wait for the other coins in the series.

Interesting novelty (at least for me): NGC graded the 2017 US Mint sets as "NGC First Day Of Issue 2017 U.S. Proof Set" In the image (on the GovMint) the sets appear originally sealed with the NGC sticker. Meaning, that also RCM's boxed sets could be submitted for grading?

The description just says 'colour' so I would assume paint and not enamel.
Personally, I wouldn't compare these to the mask coins. They had no historical connection for me and were not recreations of iconic Canadian medals. Artistically, the mask coins were probably nicer but there is no visceral connection.
It's unfortunate that they didn't include images of the other three coins. They also blew it with the incorrect modern effigy on the Sacrifice medal.

CC-Ottawa I agree, a case for the entire series would be nice. If you make the commitment to purchase the entire series, they could at least upgrade the case. I might be wrong, but I think the that the terms of the redemption code mentioned something about not being able to use it for a subscription.

Yes correct. The redemption code can't be used for subs but these coins are available as singles. Problem being, if I buy one....I would have to buy the rest. lol

I too agree re historical connection vs moon masks...and in that regard it would have been a lot better to use no colour on the coin per se and save the colour for the packaging w/ box...

No colour on the coin except where it exists on the medals, and a box with the ribbons positioned above the slots for the coins.
I hate playing the "what if they had done it differently" game but that would have been awesome. Maybe a little too awesome.

@CC-Ottawa: Your musings on "what could have been" reminded me of a "Coin & Medal Set" put out by the US Mint during the 50th anniversary of World War II. The ribbon for the medal was printed on the presentation card, but the Victory medal in the set was an actual struck piece. The effects makes for a very nice and educational presentation.

Very nice commems. Guess I'll wait and see if the whole series is available later. Would be nice to see all the coins since the next three have a lot of potential. Anyway, just spent my credit on some coins I really don't want all that much. And left 20 cents of pure profit behind for the RCM.

Surprised to see the 10 oz anniversary of confederation coins sold out. Even more surprised there is almost no buzz about it. Starting to wonder if that was a commissioned series and the bulk of the mintage will soon appear elsewhere.
