Medal commemorating the Hudson Bay Company tercentenary, 1970. Obverse: The arms of the Hudson's Bay Company.
Legend: 'HUDSON'S . BAY . COMPANY.' Below: '1670.'
Reverse: The vessel 'Nonsuch' starboard bow view. Legend: 'COMPAGNIE . DE . LA . BAIE . D'HUDSON.' Inscription: 'NONSUCH.'

This medal designed by Mrs Dora de Pedery Hunt of Toronto and engraved by Canadian Artistic Dies Inc. Sherbrooke, Quebec. Approx. 48,000 examples like this one were struck for presentation to proprietors and staff on the occasion of the 300th anniversary, 2 May 1970.

Here's a little history on The Hudson's Bay Company

I found this one a few years back and it is a discus of a medal.
Huge and heavy.
Mostly I bought it because I have a pretty nice collection of Canadian Tokens Half Pennies and such.
A couple very expensive and hard to find tokens are the Hudson's Bay Co and North West Co. Trade Tokens.
Since I wanted at least something connected to this, I found this one at a very good price and think it is a neat medal as well.
I doubt I'll ever get a real beaver fur token.

Mine is a bit nicer than the usual encountered.
They did come on a cardboard display, which I do not have.

According to the Wikipedia link info, Zachariah Gillam was the Captain of the Nonsuch. Thank you for admiring the medal and the dime info.
I believe Hudson was captain of the Discovery.
Here's a Commorative half link http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/9312

Mutineers set Hudson, his teenage son John, and seven crewmen—men in a small shallop, an open boat, effectively marooning them in Hudson Bay. Mutineers provided the castaways with clothing, powder and shot, some pikes, an iron pot, some meal, and other miscellaneous items.
After the mutiny, Captain Hudson's shallop broke out oars and tried to keep pace with the Discovery for some time.
Mutineers finally tired of the David-Goliath pursuit and unfurled additional sails aboard the Discovery, enabling the larger vessel to leave the tiny open boat behind. Hudson and the other seven aboard the shallop were never seen again, and their fate is unknown.

I traded one of those with one of our members a couple of years ago. It was in similar condition as yours. They are beautifully made medals.
