I have a 1970 S Small date , I think. I see the curl in the 9. That is how I was told to see it. Am I wrong.
It was found in my pocket change.

I think it's a large date.

If you draw a line from the bottom of the 1 to the bottom of the 0, the leg of the 7 should not cross that line.

I think yours does. I'm no expert though, I just look at a lot of pictures.

Edit: The curl of the nine can be used but, a small date 9 would curl more upwards at the end.

I wonder if it's a double die as well.

This is the large date. I'm not sure about drawing a line from the 1 to the 0, but Spruett is right in that you compare the bottom of the 7 to the bottom of the 0. Some guidebooks also refer to these varieties as "high 7" (small date) or "low 7" (large date). In the large date, the curl of the nine points towards the bottom of the seven. In the small date, the tail of the nine points more horizontally.

Looking at the lettering, I can say your coin is definitely not a doubled die. Here are some images: http://www.lincolncentresource.com/...70Sddo1.html

This is from PCGS and what I was referencing concerning the 1 to 0 line and the 9's curl:

Here's a specimen for reference. As noted, BERTY is washed out and while some sources will offer this isn't a great diagnostic, I think it is. I haven't come across a SD specimen where LIBERTY is strong. It may exist...but I haven't seen one. Notice the end of the inner loop points towards '3 o'clock'. Look at your LD specimen. It points towards the '5 o'clock' area. Also, the 7 is level with the tops of the 9 and 0. On the LD specimen you have, the 7 is lower giving the appearance that the 0 is drifting off and to the northeast.

It'll take a bit, but once you have it down, you'll know what to look for. Good luck!
