I purchased this coin off ebay a couple weeks back its a Haxby PC59-65a4, 65a + P4a when it arrived I saw it had some green gung on it so I put it in a small bowl of Acetone in a well vented area for a hour or so then rinsed it off good with water. After looking at it again it still had lots of green so I used a Hawthorn thorn to lightly pick away at the green gung for a couple hours then a two hour bath in some Leuchtturm reinigungsbad cleaning bath then rinsed very well with water again and these are the before and after picture's.

What's the verdict better or not?

Have you tried verdi-care, Jim? Once the hard granular green gets on there, there will be black spots or small pits where the green was. The softer, oily stuff comes off great with acetone and a thorn.

No I don't have any of the Verdi-care or have I tried any as of yet but I am going to get some soon and try it out. By some of the previous posts on Verdi-care it sounds like it works great

That looks like pvc damage and not oxidation or verdigris to me.
If that is the case, you did an excellent job in improving the coin without ruining it with a lot of care and patience.
Looks like you eliminated 80 % of the green stuff. If it were to get graded before or after it would get environmental damage, so in a rare case of cleaning, I'd say you improved it by doing a good job.
Still, once a pickle, it won't be a cucumber again.

Verdi-care is definitely the best choice.

Your work really made it a lot better. I would now try to get at the remaining stuff in the T,..but it might not move.

Still ..so much better with what you've done so far..

..and a great grade for a tough die pair..

Thanks for all your comments and the advise of using Verdi-care conditioner I've herd nothing but good about the product and plan on getting a bottle for future coin buys.

This coin could still use a couple more hours of working on it with the Hawthorn thorns I find the new thorns that I picked this year better for picking than the older dried ones.

I know it will never be a cucumber ever again Nickelguy but maybe a good looking sweet pickle.

It is a fairly hard variety to find in a nice high grade like you have mentioned DEVLEC so I don't mind spending the time to help improve the looks of it.
I would grade it a very nice VF-30 or EF-40 and I will put extra care and attention on the T
