Just curious. Here is a coin with some serious chippies for reference. What do you think this coin would grade without the chips? Sorry in advance if the pics aren't good enough to be gradeable.

In my experience die chips do not affect the grade. Now, when you get to the 68+ level, that may change. It would probably also depend on how distracting they may be. Graders form an opinion in 5-6 seconds and if they notice the defect, they would probably quickly magnify it to see it was part of the strike, residue or other defect. Generally, minor die cracks and chips are ignored.

I think that depends on if you collect coins with die chips.
It probably doesn't affect the technical grade but would affect the eye appeal grade.

Thanks for the input. I had assumed that chips and such would be detractors, something along the lines of a weak strike. I guess I will worry less about these things unless they're quite noticeable -- like the big chips on the reverse of that dime.
