I was as the PNNA show in Seattle today. I looked for a lot of varieties, but found nothing unattributed. However, I did pick up this clipped IHC for $7.50. No doubt in my mind it's real--a little dirt and wear but no big issues. . Edited by Thulium 03/19/2017 01:25 am

I don't think it's a legitimate clip, just post mint damage. No blakesly effect, damage also into the field around the clipped area.

It's very minor, barely going past the denticles.
Is it possible that the blakesly effect would be almost non existent. I see that effect easily on more dramatic examples, but have had a few minor curved clips that show little to no blakesly effect.

Sounds logical. Either way, I don't think this coin has much value.

The soft denticles around are clip and shallow strike in the date area near the clip are consistent with metal flow on a clipped IHC when struck. I believe my photos are clear enough to show this. In hand, it does in fact, show a clear Blakesly effect in rim thickness. You're welcome to disagree--but I have the coin in hand. Value or not--I like it, all that matters to me.

From what I see I believe it is a real clip.

I think it's real also. Just sad that somebody had to scratch it up so badly.

Thulium since it's your coin and you have it hand I will defer then, you could be right. I wasn't thinking of how little Blakesley effect would show up with such a small area clipped. Since you say it's thinner then it isn't a end of strip error. I have a few similar Two Cent Pieces which I can't tell one way or another for sure, being low grade/value also, makes it hard for me to justifying a submission to a TPG.
