Three years ago this commemorative was retailing for over two grand. I was able to pick this one up for a fraction of that price.

2001-Capitol-Visitor-Center-$5-Unc.

Such a wide fluctuation in value makes me think the bottom has fallen out of the modern gold commemoratives.

$2 grand? Wow! Wonder why?

I saw one in OGP at the ANA show last week for $450 I think?

Nice looking coin ... great addition to your collection.

Sounds like you for it at a good price.

FYI - Greysheet is $750 in MS

Very nice example muddler! It looks very clean on both the obverse and reverse. Great additon to your collection. Glad you were able to get the coin at a savings from previous market highs.

I've always thought that the three coins of the Capitol Visitors Center program worked well at educating folks about the roots of the magnificent building that is today's US Capitol. Highlighting the smallish original building that housed Congress, the Supreme Court and Library of Congress was, IMO, a thoughtful way to encourage folks to seek out more information about the Capitol's development.

The Architect of the Capitol web site has a very good video that describes the Capitol's growth. Check it out for more: US Capitol History.

I should have mentioned muddler ... the Greysheet only shows a MS or proof
price.

I would have to research.. but imagine a slabbed MS 69 must trade for
much more.
