Hello friends, When you buy a 2017 (or whatever year available) from a place like JM Bullion for example (2017 1 oz American Silver Eagle Coin (BU)) are you almost sure to get a MS70 or at the most MS69 if you send it in for grading? I am narrowing my selection for getting back into coin collecting to starting with the first year of the AE 1986 through 2017. But if I buy them ungraded, will they grade out on the high end. Thank you for your assistance. Coinology *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

For me personally I just don't see the need to get bullion coins graded.

Does that mean that there will not be any value later down the road or are they just too perfect already so no need for grading?

Well the way I look at it, these are NCLT: Non Circulating Legal Tender (albiet I doubt you will ever find one in circulation). That said most of them will be in BU condition. In regards to what they would grade, I don't know but they won't be bad.

If I was going to collect ASEs,They would be the proof version. much better looking in my opinion. They tend to carry more of a premium than the regular version.

The short answer is "No" there is no guarantee that the coins you receive will grade 69 or 70. They may, but you can't assume they will. As bullion coins, they are not handled the same way as collector NCLT coins - they often show signs of contact with other coins which lowers their grade. The dealers that offer 69s and 70s send in very large quantities of ASEs in order to get the high-grade coins they desire. I've been told by multiple people within the industry that the coins sent in by these large-scale dealers that do not receive a 69 or 70 are returned raw and sold as such. Their is essentially no market for graded ASEs with grades of 68 and lower. If you absolutely want to assemble a graded set of ASEs, I believe you would save money in the long run by buying coins that are already graded. It costs a fair amount to have the ASEs graded and you stand a reasonable chance of not getting the grades you desire.

If you want an MS70 bullion ASE then just buy it already graded..it's cheaper...and kinda guaranteed it is a MS70. It will cost between $33-39 I have submitted MANY coins for grading but never a bullion ASE and I have a crap load of them

Buying a bullion coin to have it graded defeats the purpose of it being bullion.

Buy them already graded. I recommend NGC as their are many more available than PCGS.
A full set of all the mint state, struck by, proof, reverse proof, enhanced finish, and burnished issues passed 100 varieties this year.
Pick a grade and stick to it - 69 for most collectors. 70 sets are major bucks.
Forget the 95 W unless you are rich.
The 2008 reverse of 2007 is now hovering near $400 in 69 and $900 in 70. It would be considered the key since so few can purchase the 95 W.
Buy the 9 pocket pages for a neat display in a binder.
If you do and you go for the complete set you'll need 2 4" binders to hold them.

Thank you all for your advice and very valuable information. I am not sure what I am going to do just yet, but now I think graded AE will be the way to go for me.

Just an update. I received my first 5 MS70 AE coins yesterday (2017,16,15,14 & 13) and I must say, they are quite impressive.
Can't wait to order more.

Don't play the grading game, especially with ASEs. If you want to get a 70, then I would do what you are doing. Let someone else take the risk of getting a lower grade when its submitted.
