Large Medal With Men Playing Xiangqi... I'm Guessing The Writing Is Chinese

"Qi" means chess and "xian" is something along the lines of wizard/gods, so the two fellas playing chess on the obverse of the coin may be gods or something like that. The reverse is a poem written by Zhu Xi, who was a philosopher during the Song Dynasty and lived in China from ~1130-1200. The poem is found here: http://poetrynook.com/poem/%E6%B8%B...F%E5%B1%B1-3 I am finding it very hard to find a correct translation of the poem, but at least you will be heading in the right direction. My guess is that it's a Go enthusiast medal of some sort that implies that Go is the Chess of gods/wizards. Report this Post to the Staff

It's chess played in China called xiangqi. In China, they just called it chess. In other parts of the world it might be called Chinese Chess. Report this Post to the Staff
