I have a 1988 proof set with a poorly struck S mint mark on the Roosevelt dime. At first glance it makes you think of an inverted number five. The top of the S is very weak and not complete. I don't have a camera good enough for a picture. Anyone else heard about this. I even purchased another 1988 proof set to compare, and there is a noticeable difference in the dime's mint marks. Any information will be appreciated.

Without a decent picture it's impossible to tell what you have. Could be a weak strike or more likely a filled die. Any chance you can scan a pic?

I tried scanning with my scanner and all I get is blurr when I zoom in. My digital camera can't do it either. I was thinking that if anyone else had a 1988-S proof set in their closet, to get it out and check the mint mark on the dime.

A quick search on Google shows that all of them have an odd shaped "S".

Thanks for the reply SecretGlitch. I tried a search but didn't find that info. Where did you find it?

Thanks again SecretGlitch, but that is a 1998-S. I have a 1988-S. The mint mark on my 1988-S doesn't look like the one on the 1998-S. As I have mentioned in my first post, I have another 1988-S proof set and the mint mark on that dime is good.

Oops, didn't notice that screw-up of mine. In any case, it's probably what MorgansRMines said, until we see some pictures.
