Hi

I brought the following £5 coins at face value, but 2 of them are from Tristan du cunha and Alderney. Is the Tristan coin a silver proof coin and overall was this a good deal.

It's hard to tell condition from your photos, but assuming that they're all pretty much in uncirculated condition (which they should be as non circulating coins) then you've done rather well. Ignore Alderney and T.D.C. Check the retail prices here:

Thanks for the reply alganbagerap I will try to post some better pictures. These seemed to be in uncirculated condition. The TDC look like it's silver but I can seem to find any info about whether the coin was made in silver

The online World Coin Price Guide lists only one £5 coin for Tristan da Cunha, for 2008 and both are silver - see https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1561598 and https://www.NGCcoin.com/price-guide...duid-1563293 . The values are similar.

The TDC coin I have is minted in 2015. I have attached hopefully some better photos compared to the other £5 coins it seems a lot brighter

These 5 pound coins are very difficult to find the US as I have only found 3 or 4 at my local store. Paying face value is a great deal - if you end up wanting to sell them, you should be able to exchange them at the bank if no one else offers more than face value. I would be thrilled to find that many of them here.

I went to England two years ago and brought a duplicate 5 pound coin to the bank. The teller was a little confused initially and asked the manager if they could take it. They said yes so I ended up with a 5 pound note. Thanks for sharing these beautiful designs!

I managed to get complete set of countdown to London 2012 £5 set, I only paid face value, so I'm happy.

The coins seem to be circulated.

Face value is usually a great price to pay for anything... its like a free no-lose bet.

Then some guy spent fortunes on commemorative £5 coins and kept banking them in some online nectar point system. The banks then said they didn't want to take them.

I am not sure how the land lays now in regards to this but pressumably if you ever wanted your money back you would be able to somehow.
