I see lots of posts talking about buying counterfeits on ebay and elsewhere. Now I am paranoid! Is there an idiots list on how not to buy a counterfeit coin? Things to watch out for? Obvious scams?

Post pictures of the coins you are interested in and wait for others to give you their opinions and information on them.

You will want to post them in the forum appropriate for the coin you are questioning. For example, a suspicious Morgan or Trade dollar would go in the US Classic forum.

Its getting bad. Sometime I might post a thread of all my counterfeits from China.
I've been reporting the offenders, getting a refund and not required to return the coins in many cases.
Now I'm being contacted by Chinese casting companies asking me if I want to do business.
(I'm presuming they're looking for counterfeit distributors in the USA.)

I remember reading this guide posted at ebay itself. It pertains to ancient coins so not everything will apply to modern ones but there is a summary/list at the end if you don't want to read it all.

I read the document. Its good to have a checklist of the obvious, thanks!

I realized that I can search for the seller name on the forum and you all post fraud and counterfeit. That will be my first indication. I will also be doing a google search on the name. Perhaps that will pull up bad reviews.

I guess I can also look at CCF member ebay listings.

Thanks for the advice on posting listings prior to purchase on the forum.
