In March 2017 there was a lot of media coverage about a dollar coin in your pocket that could be worth $1000. That coin is the year 2000 $1/10c mule, struck on the heads side with a 10c coin die and the normal kangaroo reverse (tails die). It can be tricky telling if a dollar coin is a mule error or not, so the folks at the Australian Coin Collecting blog wrote an article on the topic: (Copied from The Australian Coin Forum)

Thanks Nevol

I quite liked the "quiz" in the attached blog

As I have recently come into possession of my first mule, I have attached a picture which may help determine if it is the "real McCoy". Quite simple really and very logical

Actually, I have looked at my mule quite a lot since receiving it. The error appears to me to have a certain subtlety to it. It is not "brazen" but like the 50 Cent Incuse Millennium coin it "creeps up on you" as a pleasant surprise ......

Nice one Squire W.

Sitting a 10c coin on top is another way to be sure of what you have, providing there's no movement between them of course.

Thanks for the "caution" regarding the placement of the 10 cent piece atop of the "Mule", Nevol

In response to Hercules comment and at the risk of repeating myself, I thought I would once again add my "Mule Collage"
