Recently received this coin in an auction with Canadian coins. Just curious as to what's the deal with the back side of the coin. Is this from a stamp, or from someone etching it out? Thanks for any information you guys can give me about this.

its commonly described as a love token. One side was made smooth, and someone's initials were etched. PMD

@nutley, first welcome to CCF. Second, @fuzzy is correct. This coin was machined smooth on one side and then a new design (initials) engraved so that this could be a gift or memento. Some people may collect love tokens, but there is very little numismatic value left for this coin.
