Hello, I just had a chance to start looking through some 1921 Morgan dollars, trying to spot any obvious marks that would make it relatively easy to identify the VAM for the coin. This one stood out, but going through the pictures on the VAM website didn't help, though I'm sure its in there somewhere. I am not sure if the problems with the US of pluribus happened after the coin was minted, and would like some help. Thanks

Casual,

Looks very similar to one I posted recently https://goccf.com/t/27876

I'm pretty sure this is post-mint damage.

It looks like post mint damage to me also. It does have some nice cracks though.

Hello, Thanks, I checked out the JOH-15 reply to SeatedNut's post in the link above, and it does check out. VAMworld lists this coin as a 1921-D VAM-1CP. I tried to get a good picture of the scribbling scratches and the small die scratch in the left wreath they say this coin should have.

Good eye SuperDave,

My mind just freezes when I see the dreaded "1921". I have a drawer full of them, and I just can't get myself to attribute them.

If they bother you that much, just send them to me and I'll suffer with it. I'll give you a buck apiece for them.

Don't tempt me SuperDave, I get so frustrated with them, at times I might consider your offer. It's a small drawer however.
