Here is a raw coin that I'm buying, but I need help grading it. I've gotten better with the well worn circulated IHCs, but I'm still struggling and learning with the upper grades.

EDIT: More photos a few posts down.

SECOND EDIT: I asked the seller if he could see any luster cartwheeling. His said it had minimal cartwheel.

Thanks in advance.

Ouch! That's lower than what I was thinking. It does has a few marks and the luster is subdued. I'm wondering what you saw that I didn't?

The amount of wear on the feathers, hair, diamonds, and the shield on the reverse. Its a solid XF-45.

Ok, I zoomed in as much as I could and while I'm not seeing anything in the feathers or shield, I now see that the diamond ribbon appears to have a bit of wear (namely on the second from the top and the bottom diamond). I thought there might be a trace of wear on the reverse knot and at the high points of a few wreath leaves before I posted, but I wasn't sure.

I have several XF IHCs and they all seem to have way more wear than this coin. Why not AU? Is it the lack of luster?

I would say that coin is at least a high end AU, probably at least an AU-58, if not a Mint State piece. I see some mint surface on the reverse. It all depends upon how much mint luster there is, which I can't determine from a photograph.

Bill, that's what I was thinking too when I first posted. I just got more photos, I'll get them resized and posted soon.

i have it at AU55 also. some weakness in strike on the obverse is being attributed to wear. I think the scratches on the cheek and neck area, lack of luster and discoloration around the date area would keep it from AU58. you also have a small rim hit at 1 o'clock on the revers
