This coin is being sold by a trusted seller on ebay. His reputation is beyond reproach IMO, so I hesitate to ask. But does this coin look genuine? The reverse is what is why I ask, it just looks too good.

Hope it is not a violation to post a reply here directly but we are friends so here goes. I am new here so I'll pull the post if it is. --->Well I worried about that as well as the reverse looked that good, but remember these were wrapped 30 years ago in the Cellophane, and this does not rub off at all plus the encrustation when you blow it up is genuine, edge seems fine. Either way I guarantee the coin for life so you can always send it back. I have a blackbox of coins I pulled and won't put up but this one I am going with. Plus it was in a bag with another that looks fine. Hope that helps. The lot this is from is posted below for fun. Everything else has been perfect so far.

to the community I hope that my question didn't offend you, I have bought from you before and will continue doing so. This coin however has me scratching my head a bit. It looked almost perfectly round and that reverse just looks too good. That is also an impressive lot that you found. Wish I could find something like that. My problem would be that I would keep them all for my collection. Hope to see you here on the board often.

No problem at all and I was not sure I should reply. I love debate. As a chemist one rule I follow is the encrustation. Could I produce that and how would I produce that. So often a coin that will sell for $25 you'd have to give me a month to chemically try to produce an encrustation like that and I'd fail plus it would not stick like real ancient encrustation does. So you have to wonder where is the profit for the person making the fake if it is more of an art and would man power hours cost way more then the coin would ever sell for? I'll photograph more edge photos tonight for you and post them here. And I often ask great experts about coins I am worried about. This one stopped me for a few minutes and I passed it through. On a side note I can add to your fake collection if you like some photos in that other thread if you like as well. I have pulled a lot over the years and use them for talks.

Thanks for the extra pictures. All the lines look sharp and not cast and I don't see a casting line along the edge. The patina and encrustations look natural also. So I think I have answered my own question.

Looks like I might have stirred up interest in this coin. The bidding has jumped way up, I can't even get a bid on it.

Well since I made the photos for you already I did add them to the listing. The more photos the better people might like this apparently.

I don't see any reason to be concerned about this coin. Some Greek bronzes weather the centuries better than others, as anyone who has more than a couple can tell you. If I collected the coins of Philip I would not hesitate to go for this one. I don't so I'm no threat to anyone, but it's a nice looking coin.
